WHOA.

What is the EXACT code that you used to get that?

EDIT:WOW! NICE FIND!!

Usually, coupons don't apply to business rates. I live by internet coupon codes. This is the first time EVER that they have allowed a coupon code to apply to a business rental!! SCORE!!

Code: U368037

Just noticed my reservation has a lift gate - gotta fix that.

Also, as I was canceling my old reservation on the phone, the guy tried to make me a new reservation and the code didn't work. He said it must be "online only."

Done!

You can place a new reservation. They don't actually charge anything to you until you pick up the truck. Place new one, cancel old one.

*highfive*

lucky - I called to cancel the old one (s'long as it's at least 48 hours out, there's no charge) and then made a new reservation online.

this IS a great coupon code, and i just popped over to the site to make the reservation.

only thing is, when i try to do it business rate, it keeps asking for my "company name' during credit card sign up,
and i really don't feel comfortable lying.

when i do it personal rate, it's about $300 more, but i don't have to lie about anything....decisions, decisions,

maybe i'll sleep on it.

Your company name is Feet of Clay. Now, don't fuss so. They aren't asking you for a resale number or anything...

Actually, my company name is "Adrienne L Lojeck" (that felt the *least* dishonest),
and I just made my reservation!!!

Truly hope JungleSmacks is right about:
a) the Gentry Way office being cool with burners
b) the Gentry Way office being cool with my NOT really being a business owner (don't ask don't tell is my policy on this one!)

does anyone know how far the Gentry Way office is from the RENO Amtrak station?

That's completely easy with google maps or mapquest.
You're going to have to take a cab. The Amtrak is in the city center--I think Gentry's in a newer section of town, post free-way.

Lol.. I promise you with everything that I have that they do not care. In fact, you're free to give them a call tomorrow and ask. The guys name that answers the phone usually is Robert.. you'll know him by his funny accent. Big Haitian guy with long black dreads. Super cool. Tell him that you're reserving online for a Burning Man rental and that you want to make sure that it's all good. Ask directly about the business rate.

One thing that I should add is that you need to leave room on a credit/debit card for a sizable deposit that will be refunded once you return the truck. I believe that it may be up to $500 or so.

Also, if you're renting as a "business" you cannot deny the insurance. I think it's only like $6 a day or something. It's not that bad, and it does cover your butt in case of any mishap out there. Any questions about either the deposit or insurance or anything, just give them a call there at the location.

YAYYYYYY for people getting hooked up and making it happen! Not much longer now!

2.7 miles, to be exact. A little farther than the airport. It's like a $10 cab ride with tip.

Two battery powered LED Christmas light strings work perfect strung along either side. Just the right amount of ambiance. The roof is metal, so I stick a magnetic LED light from Harbor Freight up there for bright light when needed. There are wooden rails about 18" apart that run the whole length of the truck to hang/tie things to. Two cheap tubs from WallyWorld for food and clothes. Last year, the girl and I had a whole bedroom setup with queen sized box spring/mattress and eveything. Flipped over gallon water jug boxes work great as night stands and tables. Bring and extra bedsheet/tapestry and clothesline to string across the back as a privacy curtain. The door stays open during the day for air, partially closed at night.. but who sleeps when it's dark at Burning Man?! Dust storms you shut it all the way and wait it out. There's still air and light coming in.

It's pimp. :D

the previously mentioned reno budget rental place is good..

in the past some friends and i had a rental reservation with u-haul,.. who upon finding out the trip was to burning man because of a silly friend mentioning it.. denied the rental

upon getting to the budget place they gave us a truck with no issues, knew where it was going.. and this was on the Monday the gates opened without any previous reservation..

good stuff

plus, camping in those things is real cool

The door has a cable attached to it that kind of makes it go all the way up or almost all the way down.. there's not too much in between. You can coax it to stay about 12" open at the bottom or it has to go all the way up. That's why a bedsheet that's safety pinned over a clothesline stretched across makes a great privacy curtain for the day. You can even close it all the way and not feel like you're totally shut in. Air still comes inside just fine and you have a little bit of a sound barrier.

Also, when I park the truck in camp, I try to make it so that the back of the truck is facing the inside of a group cul-de-sac area but not right in the middle of a main congregation area.. know what I mean? Park it a little bit inside the block and not on the edge with the street right there when you step out of your truck. That main metal back bumper area will be where you set up your stove, step in and out of, etc.. so you want a little bit of privacy/shelter from main streets and rustling about areas. Just use your head when you park.

Here's the contact info if you'd like to give them a quick call just to say hi and check on things. Like I said, they love us.. and will tell you that! I have to admit that I get a kick out of hearing Robert's scratchy accent on the phone each year when I call.. it's like.. ahhhhhh... home.

i only did it one year.. i had a big tarp hanging off the cables JS mentions above.. kept the door open up 100% of the way almost the whole burn never closing it even a bit.

during one particularly nasty dust storm it was closed about 3/4 of the way ..stayed nice inside.

very cool lemur! :)

if i attach tarps/sheets/fabric to the back, do i have to "guy" out the edges a bit? one end of the material anchors to the truck, and the other end anchors to what?

i love the idea of keeping it open the whole time. i think i will do the same, with the exception of a dust storm :)

I called and talked to Robert to make sure my business rental was OK because I had cancelled a rental that was a personal rental. He is a nice guy and after the confusion about where my rental was (it was under the business name) we went through everything and all was good. I did find out the the deposit is more than what is on the reservation form because it is calculated on the total rental which includes the insurance. So add a few hundred dollars on the deposit. It isn't a big deal since it is just a hold on a credit card but something that is good to know.
Thanks again for the info JungleSmacks!!

Nice!

You know I had that exact thought earlier today.. that I needed to mention that you need to give your "business" name in order to find your rental from here on out because that's what it's rented under.

You can leave the back of the truck open a lot (when you're in camp), but make sure to point the big door North or East. (You'll see how people orient their vehicles when you arrive). Wind tends to come from the Southwest, although of course it can come from anywhere.

WOOT!

Gee.. *cough*.. how could you ever.. *cough*... repay me?

Yeah.. Priceline name your own price works awesome especially for rental cars. I use it pretty much every time I travel. Last time I went home to Hawaii, I think I paid $12/day for a mid size. I use it all the time for hotels, too. That and Hotwire. Since they're the same company, you can do a normal search in Priceline for your destination and see what they have available by the star level. Then, go over to Hotwire and search.. and even though you can't see the name of the hotel, you know by location and star level pretty much exactly which one you're going to get. Works wonders.

PS.. you win animated GIF of the day award. THAT.. is rad.
