There's some really interesting cases out there. One could probably make an academic career out there just studying various forms of asshattery.

One year while we were packing up, someone came into camp with a description of a girl they'd "lost" and needed to find so they could leave. She'd been off her meds so she could experience the burn unfiltered or some such BS. She'd already panicked and bolted once and they'd found her. This time though, she got away. They were asking everyone if we'd seen (insert generic description of young female burner here). They thought she'd headed for the trash fence, but had hoped she'd turned back and tried to find her camp....

Don't go off your meds. Wrong environment for psychotic breaks.

Worth noting, I caught the flu out there last year, and doubtless many others did too.

That may be why so many passed out or got sick for no apparent reason.
I was dragging all week.
I thought it was exhaustion.

Indeed, the flu was going around. A friend of mine rolled in, put up his camp, and left about 24 hours later with all the symptoms of flu. Very sick. Experienced burner, too, it wasn't altitude or partying too hard. I'm amazed he got home in one piece.

One normal can of Red Bull + 1/2 a liter of water = flavored water (tastes close to sucking on a sweet tart and then drinking water.)

Don't eat a lot of carbs during the day. Eat protein. Even greasy, salty, protein like bacon. Pickled anything is good for you out there. Dill pickles, etc. Don't go eating a lot of starchy stuff during the day. Carrots are great and so is stuff like gazpacho. Avoid a lot of alcohol. I like beer but I drink the watery crap beer during the day with less alcohol, like a cheep American light beer.

I add a couple of measures of sports drink powder to my hydration pack full of water. It doesn't make a full strength drink, you can just barely taste it, but it adds a little extra energy to the water.

My breakfast might be a tin of kippers, a cup of coffee and a strip of bacon if there's some handy. No pancakes, waffles, bread, etc. Your body will crave the carbs later when it gets cold. That is the time to eat the pasta, bread, corned beef hash, etc.

Get a good night's sleep. Really.

I really like all of what you said here. Tell me, do you eat the kippers straight up or with crackers?
