Throw the microwave out

A few month ago I put the microwave in the pile for garage sale. Then I started to heat my food the old fashion way.Double boiler steaming. My food taste better and I will be able to take more & different foods to the playa. Things don't stick to the bottom of the pans. It takes about 2x the time of microwaveing. Say 3 min. will take six. No dead animals in my camp so things don't rot. With vegie stuff, over rip or scrapes I just dry then in the sun. When I'm home just put then in the worm bed and add water. Also use facial tissue instead of paper towels. They stay in the box until used. They wad up when wet. Dry'em and feed them to the worns.

I'm glad some of the by product ends up in a heap.

I love using my microwave on the playa, it doesn't heat my place up! Just the food! And instant gratification is the most important playa food characteristic.

Hi, unjon - are you saying you cook frozen TV dinners in the microwave? Or you cook your fresh food in the double-boiler?

I have a steamer, but not a double-boiler. I can see the advantage of a d-b over the steamer. I'll have to look into that. I want some things heated but not steamed to soddenness. (That's one of the problems with microwaves - they're tuned to the frequency of water and boil it, steaming your stuff.)

That should have been double boiler/steamer.. It's three pots so I have a choice.. I don't like "wet" food eather..

I end up using my toaster oven much more than the microwave. Stuff just comes out awful from a microwave.

Hmmm, on the playa, hot food was the last thing that I wanted to eat, lol. I was eating lukewarm stuff out of cans the whole time.

Set 1/2 cup dry beans last night.. Drained washed and cook them this morning 45 min. While having coffee,shower and shave.. 12 mins. for rice so spices and veggies.. rehydrated apple.. Maybe some flat bread will be nice too
