SF Bay Area Regional ePlaya Thanksgiving(ish) Get-Together

So, while Fishy & I were having our monthly dinner this evening we were thinking how nice it would be to have some sort of get-together next month with all the "locals", basically anyone who either lives in the SF bay area or feels like traveling to it for a day. She was even rubbing her fins together in glee (or trying to get all the good samusa sauce)

We're not quite sure what- we figure a big dinner type thing would probably be a pain, but maybe a gathering at a club with a patio, a picnic in the park, a boat trip around the bay... anything, really.

If you think you're interested, lets start thinking of ideas and smashing braincells together. It shouldn't be anything too expensive, but that's about the only limit. We were thinking maybe mid-November, (possibly the weekend of the 12th)?

Supposedly Ocean Beach is, but you have to reserve it weeks in advance.

It is not, unless Fishy will consent to being carried part way (from what I can understand on the website). There are "beach wheelchairs" available with advance reservation.

Looks like it's a sedan chair if we go this route- who's got the wood to build one?

What a great idea Eric! I was wondering what to do for Thanksgiving! I'd love to spend it with my new burner friends!

I'm down, I'm from sacto and definatally would love to hang out with some new burner friends. I personally have no family within many of hundreds of miles so I usually sit at home relaxing cause i honestly work my booty off and sacrifice this holiday for christmas which i rather spend with all my family... Down to meet a new burner family!!!

I might have something that would work in the sand. Built a chair with wide rubber tires and pull ropes for a show we did in Oakland a few years ago. Let me see if it is still together. I can add poles to convert it to a sedan chair if the going gets thick. And I'd love to be part of a gathering like that. Would it be ON Thanksgiving? Or sometime that weekend!?

Not "on thanksgiving", we don't want to preclude people who spend the holiday from also seeing us. Possibly that weekend, or the weekend before.
I'm going to suggest that we develop indoor and outdoor plans, in case of cold or rain. And we want to be careful that people driving from a ways don't have to drink. Which doesn't preclude meeting in a bar, just affects the choice of bar.

We should definitely do it earlier than T-day weekend, for the same reasons Fishy states. People may have other plans & we want them to be able to come if they want. Start checking calendars & we can hammer out a date.

My thought is a Saturday so that people who travel can crash in (or near) SF before heading back home on Sunday. It'll make it a little more relaxing. We can make it start whenever we want, so it can go as long as we want.

I'd have to coax MyLarry into letting me go, get a ticket, and overcome my fear of traveling alone.

And see if I could snag a room at the Worldmark. There's a wait list for SF.

I should point out that one of the reasons we decided to call it a "regional" was to hopefully encourage people in other areas with decent populations of ePlayans do also have get-togethers. I would love everyone to come out here, but in this economy it's not going to be feasible for everyone.

That said- I love that y'all want to come out here! Our own mini-decompression!

Maryanimal, I know a number of people who bounce from regional to regional on a sort of cross-country tour. You don't have to be local to any of them! If you find a cheap fare from Spokane to SF, you should totally go!

If we know a date soon, Larry can talk to his dispatcher and see if he can get a Friday load for a San Jose Monday delivery. The problem is transport from where he can legally and safely park a semi. Not a lot of truckstops nearby.

My first thought was Zeitgeist (punk rock dive bar that serves food and has a decent sized outdoor area with picnic tables out back), but I'm not sure how handicapped accessible the back is. My second thought was the awesome dive-bar/greasy spoon diner that is Red's Java House on Embarcadero at Pier-Whothefuckknows. It's been around forever, is right on the bay, has good food and a normal assortment of non-alcoholic drinks, and also has PBR and Tecate (available in buckets, too). My third thought was man, I must have some kind of a thing for dive bars.

I might be able to help there. I have a large secured yard in Hayward that could easily house a semi for the weekend. Hayward is about 30-40 minutes from San Jose (depending on traffic). So that could be an option for you. Then you can BART to SF or we could work up a ride.
