What’s Cracki-lakin?

It was amazing to see everyone at Resonate v6.0. Props and thanks to the producers and the army of volunteers that have always made that
incredible event incredible.

And let’s not forget Chiditarod. A day of cold drizzle has never stopped that event before, and it sure as hell wasn’t going to stop it now! An epic amount of food (over 19,000 lbs) and epic amount of money (over $18,000.00) was collected for the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation. www.chiditarod.org

How's It Hangin Y'all?

Dang!

Was Burning Man amazing or what this year? Between the Trojan Horse, gorgeous Temple and effigy burns, and the incredible people from Chicago, the Midwest, and all over the planet, this year's Burn was truly one for the ages. Whether you participated in Hookahdome, were one of Chicago's huge representation at Burners Without Borders, got your adrenaline pumping at the Monster Wheel Death Race, or were one of the MANY volunteers with whom our area blesses the Playa as
Rangers, Gate Staff, Greeters, LNT/Playa restoration, or you name it . . . THANK YOU for making this year's Burn even more epicker than usual!

Double extra high-fives to the incredible Great Lakes-region and Chicago people who put together the Great Lakes C.O.R.E. Project. The lighthouse ignited with fury, burned with amazing (some might say dangerous) tenacity, fell first, and was among the very first regional burns to be approved as "leaving no trace." Way to represent. It just goes to show you that Chicago people know how to rock the Upper Midwest, the Playa, the nation, and the world!

Our three Art Grant cycles for 2011 are now finished. This year, B.U.R.N. and its Art Grants Committee gave away over $6,000 for burner art. Next year we hope to give away even more. So start brainstorming ideas!!!!

NFP-sponsored community event brings the loving, creative spirit, and the full-throttled energy of the Burning Man Project to beautiful Chicago, Illinois for thirteen hours.

On Saturday, October 15th, you and hundreds of your closest friends ill return to the Bridgeport Arts Center to create your version of Black Rock City, right here in your own amazing town.

We hope you are getting excited for Decomp, but we have a quick question for you: How many people should we invite to this shin-dig?

We ask you this question because it really depends on YOU, the volunteers who volunteer to make it happen to make it happen. If we don't have enough volunteers to staff our infrastructure then there is a real possibility we will need to limit out number of participants this year. So if you want to make sure your friend/girlfriend/boyfriend/sister/brother/neighbor/buddy/soul mate/long lost lover/uncle/??? is able to attend then please step up and help yourselves to make this one the best post playa event ever!

THEME: THE VOYAGE HOME
Some “Rites of Passage” call you away from your nest for a pilgrimage or exploration, a battle, or mission. The Rite then ends with “The Voyage Home,” a familiar story to burners in and around our great town.

Each August, hundreds of Chicagoans voyage 2000 miles to Black Rock City, where they are greeted with the words “Welcome Home.” Yet in September they voyage 2000 more miles back to their permanent homes in Chicago and the family, friends, or lovers unable to travel those 4000 miles. And that's why there's a Decompression . . . for everyone to
relive Home, right here in our amazing town.

FALL CYCLE ART GRANTS AWARD WINNERS!!!

The Art Grants Commitee is pleased to announce the winners of B.U.R.N.'s Fall Cycle.

DRAWING FROM LIGHT - Elysia Lock - $211
The centerpiece of Drawing From Light is a three by three grid of white phosphorescent panels. The foam core panels will be 30 inches wide by 20 inches tall, with grommets at each corner. At Decompression, the panels will be connected with S-hooks and suspended from rafters with chain. There will also be chain connecting the bottom to a brick weight on the floor, if needed. Black cotton/lyrca fabric will be stretched behind the white glow-in-the-dark panels with rope and grommets. This will create a background so the light drawings pop, and also prevent blinding people who are walking behind the panels.

Artist-participants will be offered a variety of lights with which they can create temporary glowing artworks. A high-powered green laser pointer provides the finest, cleanest lines. Small LED keychains held very close to the surface create a thicker, softer line. People can also use stencils and flashlights to create shapes, or they can pose in front of the wall and have a friend snap a picture with a flash. When they step away, their outlines will remain.

HYPERSONIC PHOTO-TRANSPAD - Teresa and Michael Jugovich, Karlis Kanderovskis - $260
Participants will be drawn in by the hanging garden of giant floating blacklight dream-catchers. As they approach they will hear the tunes emanating from the Audiorealoe

Looking through the Audiorealoe they will see blacklight flying saucers surrounding the mothership: the Hypersonic Photo-transpad. The spaceship will contain a private photo-booth where participants will get their picture taken by our crew of photographers and then they will be able to print that photo and take home a 4x6 picture as a souvenir from their voyage home.

SENSES OF WONDER - Gordon Kummel - $400
The installation will consist of two sealed (except for entrance/egress) micro environments roughly of dimensions of 60" x 48" x 50"D connected by a padded wireframe kid's play tunnel of 28" diameter and 6' length. The tunnel will connect the two main micro environment and will be the only conduit for participants to get from one to the other. The tunnel will like serve as its own micro environment. The installation emphasizes mystery so no cues as to interior will exist on the outside. The structures will be covered in dark fabric with a variety of textured flooring possible based on final design(carpet/grass(sod)/etc). They will not be lighted or very dimly lighted on the inside (participants are blindfolded). Each micro environment will fit one to two blindfolded individuals at once. The environments will be strongly scented (pervasive scent created by
atomizing of diffusing an essence into the micro environment) and will contain various textured objects or surfaces that directly complement the scent.

TOUCHY DUCHESS - Marcin Albekier - $400
The piece will be 15-20 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide at the base. There will be a central totem made from stacked 55 gallon drums that have the designs cut in them with various other design elements/metal sculpture components on the outside. It will all be backlit with fire through the different openings of the cans. Some of these openings will have flame effects shooting from them. Fire will also adorn the crown of the duchess (which will double as a pilot for the main effect). The enclosed base will contain all 5 accumulators & components. There will be 4 control stations around the central figure(safe
distance away). These will require participants to work together in order to set off the main effect. Failure will result in mediocre blasts and ridicule from the duchess. Success will set off a big blast(4 20lb accumulator tanks worth of propane). The main effect will spin around the top of the piece and shoot upward and over head of the participants.

MINGU'S FLOATING EMPORIUM OF STARLIGHT - Jajah Wu - $100
No Argo she, the Floating Emporium is a modest 12ft x 12ft, constructed from lumber and reclaimed water drums.
We plan to build the Emporium and test it on a local pond, and then disassemble it for transport to the Lakes of Fire site.
While we haven't decided on the trappings of the Emporium, we do want it to exude a carnival-like air, something touching a Catalan dance festival in the late 19th century, painted and festooned bright reds and golds. There will be strings of lights, but they will run on battery power or by a hand crank, so that there is no danger of electrocution.

A violinist or cellist (or both!) will riddle the night charming Gymnopédies and gypsy airs.

(We are also officially a "public charity"). THE BASICS:
In an effort to create equal opportunity for participants to purchase tickets for Burning Man 2012, tickets will be sold via three different methods. There will be two rounds of tickets provided by a random selection process, followed by one round of open ticket sales. We will also again offer a low income ticket program through special application. More information about the low income program will be posted soon.
II. PRE-SALE TICKETS -- 3,000 TICKETS SOLD VIA RANDOM SELECTION NOV/DEC 2011 -- $420 + s/h -- LIMIT 4 PER PERSON
• Participants seeking early access to full price tickets can register for the Pre-Sale during a two-week period from November 28 until December 11, 2011 (at 11:59pm PST).

• Entrants will need to provide a valid credit or debit card number at the time of registration.
• On or before December 19, a random drawing from the pool of entrants will be conducted to award 3,000 tickets at a Pre-Sale price of $420.
• If you are awarded tickets, your credit card will be charged for the total amount of your tickets at that time.
• Those who are awarded tickets will receive notification via email that their credit cards have been charged for their tickets, along with a gift certificate suitable for printing.
• Any entrants who do not receive one of these Pre-Sale Tickets will automatically be entered into the Main Sale.


II. MAIN SALE -- 40,000 TICKETS SOLD VIA RANDOM SELECTION JANUARY 2012 -- $240/$320/$390 + s/h -- LIMIT 2 PER PERSON AT ALL TIERS
• Participants will register for the Main Sale during a two-week
period from January 9 until January 22 (at 11:59pm PST), 2012.
• Entrants will need to provide a valid credit or debit card number
at the time of registration.
• On or before February 1, a random selection will be conducted to
award 40,000 tickets as follows:
- $240: 10,000 tickets
- $320: 15,000 tickets
- $390: 15,000 tickets
• If you are awarded tickets, your credit card will be charged for the total amount of your tickets at that time.
• All sales at all Tiers for the Main Sale are limit 2 per person.
• Those who are awarded tickets will receive notification on or before February 1 via email that their credit cards have been charged for their tickets and at which pricing tier.
• Any remaining tickets not claimed in the Main Sale will be moved into the allotment for the Secondary Open Sale.


III. SECONDARY OPEN SALE -- 10,000 TICKETS (INCLUDING ANY REMAINING
TICKETS FROM MAIN SALE) – MARCH 2012 -- $390 + s/h -- LIMIT 4 PER PERSON
• Once lotteries are completed, 10,000 tickets will be held aside for open sale, plus any unclaimed tickets from the Main Sale.
• These tickets will be sold until they are gone.

ALL physical tickets from ALL THREE sales (except those that were
designated to be held at Will Call) will be mailed in June 2012.

GATE AND WALK-UP OUTLET SALES: Tickets will NOT be sold at the Gate to
Black Rock City, nor at Walk-Up Outlets.

RESALE TICKETS: Burning Man plans to create a centralized online system to facilitate the resale of unwanted/unneeded tickets. More details will be announced soon.

LOW INCOME/SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS: These separate programs will be merged into a new program designed to combine the best of each for 2012. The total number of low-income tickets will be increased (from last year’s total of 3,500) to serve more participants. Further details will be released after the Main Sale has begun.

I'M ANXIOUS ABOUT GETTING A BURNING MAN TICKET THIS YEAR. WHAT DO I DO?
Don't panic. While we understand everybody's eager (and perhaps anxious) to secure themselves a ticket for 2012, it's important to remember that we're selling AS MANY OR MORE tickets than we did in 2011, only through different mechanisms than in the past. There are in reality upwards of five different ways you could acquire tickets:

- You can get 'em in the holiday Pre-Sale now ... register, and we'll do a random drawing from all entries to distribute 3,000 tickets.
- You can get 'em in the Main Sale in January ... just register, and we'll do a random drawing for 40,000 tickets.
- We'll have a first-come, first-served Open Sale of 10,000 tickets (plus whatever's left over from the Main Sale) in March.
- Then there's the inevitable aftermarket from Burners like yourselves who either sell their extras, or realize they can't attend, and sell them. (We're anticipating this will be a big market, and we're working on a system that helps you buy and sell them more safely.)
- Finally, if you're particularly financially constrained, we've also got a Low Income Ticket Program that'll start up after the Main Sale
... it requires filling out a written application for our hard-working
ticket folks to review by hand.

We really do believe that with all these mechanisms to get tickets, most everybody's needs will be met. We worked very hard on this, weighing many variables, and determined that this solution would serve the community's myriad needs at this time.

Inevitably, there's going to be something that doesn't work perfectly, and we are committed to learning from our experience and improving things for the future. We'll continue to study and evolve our systems to adapt to the ever-changing needs of our community. In fact, when you go to register for tickets, you'll be asked to fill out a quick 12-question survey, which will help us learn more about you and your purchasing patterns, providing important data for our ongoing considerations and system improvements.

Ho Ho Ho Santa!

It's that time of year again! SynchroniCity's annual SantaKong is December 17th, 2011!!!

WHO: You.

WHAT: SantaKong is Chicago's oldest and most heralded Whiskey Santa Rampage. Although you do not need to be Santa, you are required to have a costume that represents your holiday spirit. Examples from the past are; santa, reindeer, trees, winter pagans, winter vikings, presents, dreidels, elves (both evil and nice), etc., etc. You will get a long bus tour with drinks on the bus included in your payment. We will be making many stops around town spreading are special brand of cheer through out. These stops will include Quencher's, the Santa's Village at the Daley Plaza, Macy's, Small Bar, the ABC News filming window, the Billy Goat Tavern, and more!

WHEN: Saturday, December 17th.

WHERE: We are slated to start at Quencher's Bar, located at 2401 N. Western Avenue, as we have in year's past.

WHY: Whiskey, Beer, Xmas Cheer, Friends, Mayhem, and FUN FUN FUN!

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE? Tickets for this event typically are $30. You must Paypal pocketbook@synchroni-city.org to guarantee your participation. Some cash participants will likely be allowed on our buses the day of the event, but once we're filled up, we will have to start sending people away.
