tickets after thursday at midnight?

i have to postpone my departure and it looks like i wont get there until after midnight. is this no tickets after midnight rule hard and fast? i will have travelled 1000 miles by the time i get there....if i smile and share some cheesy goldfish, will they perhaps let me buy one anyways? the people i am supposed to meet will be upset if i don't get in....

any info is appreciated, ASAP. crossing my fingers on salvaging a botched trip....
