"However, if BRC/LLC stops sales then it will reserve a limited number of tickets to be sold at the Box Office for participants who show up at the Gate and have nowhere else to go."

Has this been covered already? Maybe the stipulation has changed since the plan was drawn up, I don't know, I just thought it was interesting. Also, I encourage people to read the plan, it's fascinating and will give you a better appreciation of all the planning that goes into the event.

How many times does the BMorg have to say "THERE WILL BE NO TICKET SALES AT THE BOX OFFICE AT THE FRONT GATE OF THE EVENT." (from the ticket page) for people to understand what NO. TICKET. SALES. AT. THE. GATE. means?

The situation changed when they yanked the Gate tickets & sold them to the general population waaaay back in May. Back when they first announced NO. TICKET. SALES. AT. THE. GATE.

Fuck. I can't believe what people will do to avoid the work of finding a ticket.

Oh I'm not showing up without a ticket, I just thought it was interesting. I have to say I put more weight in the wording of a legal document that the BMORG is required to submit to the BLM than in any press release. Time will tell.

you may have your ticket, but now you have just bolstered the hopes of those who had planned on crashing the gate, so to speak, with this 'information".

subversive? maybe...Provocative? absolutely.

if this was done with a spirit of mischief, i'm afraid you may have stirred a hornet's nest instead.

problem is, everyone will get stung.

Latest news is the the org has set up booths for surplus tickets somewhere between the highway and gate. Larry sent the word down that he doesn't want anyone with even a slim chance of making it to be turned away. Also it will reduce the likelyhood of gate-runners / crashers. Stowaways will be gifted free tickets if they pick one of six correct numbers out 10 (60% odds...). Last minute food and sundries will be sold in the D lot as there is no longer reason for detention due to the new radically inclusive on-site ticket and taco vending. Poople still unable to secure tickets will be returned to Reno, Sacramento, or San Francisco by shuttle bus at no cost to themselves.

It's information available to all, it's the OFFICIAL 2011 operating plan that BMORG is required to submit to the BLM. How is posting a quote from and a link to it subversive, let alone provocative? It's on the BLM website, even. My intention in posting it was out of curiosity and a spirit of spreading information and initiating some discussion. I didn't make this up or anything.

Wonder if that's why last year the greeter took my whole ticket, not just the stub. Maybe it was going to get resold?

You do realize there are hundreds if not thousands of people who didn't get tickets, right? People who are now grasping at any straw to make it to the Burn. Even if the BMorg set aside some tickets for this eventuality, it wouldn't be enough for even the hoard who shows up on the opening day. People who show up at the Gate without a ticket are going to get turned away because there is no way to both meet the BLM population cap (+/- 50,000 per day, including staff & volunteers) and to have tickets available for everyone who wants to get in.

People will hear this rumor, suddenly think there are "secret" Gate tickets & show up, only to clog the lines & the highway just to be sent back where they came from.

my thinking exactly eric,

now, why vargaso, would you want this to happen unless you are either horribly naive, which im sure you are not, or somewhat malicious, which i believe you are not so subtly trying to hide?

That information is months old, and outdated. Warnings went out (months ago) when that info changed, and that tickets would not be available at the gate. To address the issue of "what do you do if someone in the vehicle doesn't have a ticket?" to the satisfaction of the BLM, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, and BMOrg, the decision was made that the entire vehicle would be turned around and denied entry (because leaving someone alone on foot in the desert is a Bad Idea).

If you guys would like to take the discussion up in Politics and Philosophy or in Open Discussion, you're most welcome. My concern is that someone reading this thread and lurking may take it as an indication that there will be tickets out there. For the purposes of the 2011 event...

  • There will be no tickets available for purchase at the gate (tickets have been sold out since 24 July)
  • If anyone in the vehicle does not have a ticket, the entire vehicle will be turned around.
  • Anyone caught attempting to bring a stowaway gate will have all tickets confiscated for all passengers, and both the vehicle and its passengers will be denied entry and turned around.
  • Washoe County Sheriff's Office will be on the lookout for stragglers in the town and vicinity of Gerlach (don't just drop your ticketless friend)
