WANTED: 2 tickets to Burning Man at cost

WANTED: 2 tickets to Burning Man at cost

Postby UrpleEeple » Sat Aug 06, 2011 4:30 pm

Please Disregard Previous listing which can be read as was below
Hi, my real name is Peter. I'm a burner who would love to come home this year, but due to lack of funds did not purchase my ticket in advance (and because of lack of funds cannot purchase a ticket even if I found one at face value). I've been going to burning man since 2007 and have loved every year. I love the incredible art that is brought out every year and the interactive nature of just about everything at Burning Man. What I love the most though is Burning Man's gift culture. Gifting changed my life forever. It was because of Burning Man that I was able to live in an environment in which I could give true gifts (those without expectation of anything in return) and receive true gifts. I learned what an immense amount of joy comes from giving simply because it feels right.

The make things short: the playa is my home. I think Burning Man is the only place I've fallen in love with. I have dreams of the playa, as if it's calling me back, but while I have friends willing to give me a ride and have even offered to feed me throughout the week, I have no means of purchasing a ticket. I do have much that I can offer: I'm an artist, and if you'd like to gift me a ticket, I would be happy to give you some delicious unreleased tracks. You can check out my music here: http://soundcloud.com/UrpleEeple. I just finished a bass heavy Busta Rhymes remix if you want something totally fresh :-) On that note, I'd also be happy to dj for your sound camp. I'm also a hard worker and would love to come out to the playa early if your camp needs help setting up. I'm also happy to come out early (provided I can get a ride up) and help any art group on the playa setup their art. I will bust my balls in any way possible if it means going home this year.

If anyone would be so kind as to gift me a ticket I would be eternally grateful. I'm a fun loving guy and I promise that I will bring positive love and energy to the playa, as well as offer my time, energy, and music as gifts. Thank you for your time reading this, and if you'd rather sell your ticket I understand :-) Either way, I hope you have a great year on the playa!

Much Love,
Peter

NEW
EDIT: I have sold some of my art and can now afford a couple of ticket. I'm preferably looking for 2 tickets (although I will purchase 1) and am willing to give unreleased tracks of mine out on top of the ticket price. Please let me know if you'd like to sell your tickets to me by sending me a PM.

I'll be straight with you before the wave of snark hits...

With tons of people looking to pay for a ticket, everyone is already looking for tickets for their friends (to gift or pass along at cost). I won't say that there are no gift tickets at all, but at this point, any "gift" tickets have already gone to friends of the gifter.

I'd advise starting to save now for 2012. The ticket will be the least of your costs. It's nice that your friends are willing to give you ride, room and board on playa, but that rather misses the point of being self-reliant, eh?

I'll say this much Pete, you hit almost every single mark in the "Loooking for a ticket" points sweepstakes. Let's add up the totals:

Wants to "come home" - 5 points
"Due to lack of funds" - 5 points plus an extra 5 points for still not having the funds
Reference to the gift culture prior to the big ask - 3 points
"the playa is my home" - 4 points plus an extra 2 points for falling in love with it.
"I have dreams of the playa, as if it's calling me back" - 5 points
"I'm an artist" - 5 points
"you'd like to gift me a ticket, I would be happy to give you some delicious unreleased tracks" - 5 points for being a DJ, 2 extra points for the delicious reference
"Busta Rhymes remix" - Triple bonus 15 points for anyone who includes a reference to Busta Ryhmes in their post!
"I promise that I will bring positive love and energy to the playa" - 2 points
"Much Love,"- -2 points for not saying "dusty hugs" or "namaste"

Total - 56 points! You're a solid third place contestant behind the woman who "might die if she doesn't go home" and the man who "needs Burning Man to heal me". Well done!

Whatever - hippie.

Still, the idea that comes up from this pathetic, manipulative troll of a post is to assemble a hierarchical point list to rate some of these sob stories on. At the end, the person posting that receives the highest number of points gets... Nothing. Save for our undying gratitude for offering up another yuck.

No but seriously....
In all honesty Peter, even though your post was kind of....well.....sort of sobby sobby.....I do feel the pain of being an artist, having the playa change your life and your art in a profound way forever, and thinking and dreaming about going back all year only to be too broke to get a ticket : (
I hope that you find someone who really resonates with your music and helps you complete your journey.
But just so you know....if you cant go this year....start saving up a little cash. Burning man gives away a lot of scholarship tickets but you have to be ready to snap those up in.. I believe January. I'm actually not sure exactly how much scholarship tickets are...but I think its like in the 150-180 range? So really you just need to put away $40 a month for the rest of the year which isnt too bad.

Hahaha. Still, he missed calling everyone else "amazing people." The jury is still out whether he passed the Turing Test.

well done Dr. Helix. It's been so hard doing the apples to oranges scoring. Having a point scale really helps.
funny screen name too, I'd add one point. sounds like a cartoon vomitting.

Peter, sorry. we are getting goofy from all the pleading going on here.

I wouldn't necessarily say that I'm pleading so much as putting myself in the position for the reception of a ticket should someone feel they'd like to gift a ticket to a burner. And I'm not JUST saying give me a ticket. I offered services in return should a camp need/want an artist to play, help setting up art/camp etc. general workhorse what have you. I forgot to mention that I'm also a fire dancer, so if your camp would like a performer I would be happy to spin fire at your camp or location of your choice :)

Read a dozen of these "ticket wanted" threads. Or maybe you did and are cribbing from them.

I'm not cribbing from them at all. I haven't read any of them. I'm simply posting my story and expressing that I would appreciate a ticket and am willing to exchange art and/or services for said ticket. I don't see what's so ludicrous about that

What is ludicrous about that is that you are one of almost two thousand people who have joined the board in the 13 days since tickets sold out, many of whom are telling slight variants of that story. And to be honest, we always get a few of those each year, so those of us who have belonged to this board for a while are heartily sick of it.

I suggest you grow a thick skin.

I guess I should be thankful you spared us the "namaste" and you didn't attract the attention of Laughing Forest and her inane platitudes. Those net you multiplier point bonuses.

That's a plus 3 on the fire spinning (thank you Elorrum) and an additional 4 points for fake humility. You are now in second place eand only 5 points behind our leader! Come on Pete, you can do this! Say the word Pete. Say it. Namaste.

evil! you are all evil, i like evil though and this has to be one of the better threads in response to yet another dj who didnt think or couldn't afford to buy a ticket. The thing is DJ's (succesful ones at least) get paid ludicrous amounts of money so they should be gifting us tickets. well me at least not that i need one i bought one you see a week after they went on sale because i thought tthey would sell out in march (there's a thread somewhere) due to massive overbuying by wizards and faeries.
So if i can buy one when im on minimum wage and half my pay goes on rent every week surely you can?

I just wanted to let the community know that I have sold some of my artwork and now have enough money to buy a couple of tickets! I am preferably looking for 2 tickets (although I will buy 1 happily) because I would like to gift the 2nd ticket to a friend who's never been and deviriginize him :D I would be happy to send you some unreleased tracks on top of the ticket price. Please send me a PM if you're interested
