Prices dropping on eBay

Prices dropping on eBay

Postby Igneouss » Fri Aug 05, 2011 4:52 am

Prices beginning to drop on eBay. Wait a bit and prices will settle lower. Will also affect prices on CL. StubHub is in it's own fantasy world so don't shop there ever.
Basic b/e analysis:
2005 $243K
06 $855K
07 $1.0M
08 $1.1M
09 $0
10 $1.1M
11 $1.2M
12 $1.2M
That’s $6.8M that thousands of volunteers deserve to know about. Capitalism is alive at BM. Tickets are the commodity. Others have estimated higher profits.

....and they are back up again. but only to $800/each instead of $900. Very interesting to watch the market. You guys, we could all be trading stocks right now- Day Traders Without Borders :?

Just checked. They have come down a good bit. A whole bunch going for around $600. Maybe, just maybe, reason has returned.

More like reality has begun to settle in as the panic subsides.

Don't buy at six hundred or five, face value and that's it, otherwise these jerks will do it again and again.

Seriously, I love Burning Man, but $600 for tickets!?!?! Who the hell is paying that money? That would cover my wife and I tickets plus gas for about 3/4th the way there and back. Oh ya, that is just one ticket!

I agree... i'm really glad prices are dropping, but how about they drop to face value. I can't pull $600 out of my ass any easier than I can pull $1200.

here's to hoping my two face value tickets are on their way to me somehow...

Chrisp,

If you and your partner decide to enjoy your week elsewhere, please get in touch with me about reselling the ticket. It would be my first year and I'd very much appreciate the experience. Also, I'd love to send you a surprise in addition to payment!

It seems that investing in tickets to Burning Man is a wiser investment than buying U.S. Savings Bonds. One more reason that I'm voting for Larry Harvey for President in 2012.

(don't think I haven't pondered selling my 2 tickets to BM this year and using the money to take an Alaskan cruise!)

It'll be funny if there's a Burning Man ticket bubble next year from would-be scalpers preying on a ticket market that never sells out.

This ticket is posted on ebay for $20,000,000. The image doesn't appear real, so I wouldn't suggest that anyone buys this. It does have FREE economy shipping however, but they don't accept returns.

From the auction description wrote:Instead of being a hypocritical POS, and listing this ticket as some sort of charity or fund raiser, I'm going to "man-up" and tell ya this is purely for my self indulgence. I figure 20 mill, would be a great start, as I am trying to put together enough money so that I can bag Renee Zellweger.
I think it's safe to say without fear of contradiction, (and believe me, the thought of contradiction makes my blood run cold), that an honest approach to my self serving bs, is much preferred, compared  to the opportunistic slime who are trying to justify their bs auctions.
Anyway, buy my ticket and I'll give ya a shoutout when TMZ ambushes Renee and I having lunch.

That's the truth ruth.

It takes two to break the decommodification principle, a seller and a buyer. Don't be fool yourself into thinking you're just a victim, buying an over priced ticket is the problem.

Not really the point here. Point being don't buy high price tickets, have a little patience and wait till the prices come back down to normal. And when next year comes around, buy early and avoid this entire mess. Who are we to pass judgment? Nobody really but we can voice our opinions on how we think it is wrong and how it does go against the principals and the idea of the entire thing. Judging somebody and telling them they are wrong for what they are doing I think are two entirly different things.

Im so tired of the same conversation the past two weeks over and over and over and over and over and...

I got a stupid question about ebay.
Lets say I was considering buying a ticket off ebay.
I have an account with them and I have a paypal account.
Problem-I would have to use my friends credit card on my paypal....
Now I've heard that if the name on the account is different from the credit card holder's there could be issue's.
Any one had this problem?

P.S. I'm gonna wait alittle longer for the prices to drop so don't have a shit fit people.Just getting my ducks in a line..

A physical ticket or Will Call? If it's a physical ticket, the ticket in your hand is all you need. Doesn't matter who owned it before, as long as it's real.

If it's Will Call, the seller has to transfer the ticket into your name.
http://tickets2.burningman.com/faq.php#elsepickup

The name of the new owner does not have to match the original credit card holder's (otherwise, no one could ever sell Will Call tickets) but the seller does have to transfer the name for you, into your legal name, and you have to have ID with that name, and the new confirmation number created by the change.

Now, I don't know enough about eBay to tell you whether eBay or the eBay seller might object to someone else's credit card being used. I imagine people do it all the time, but I really can't say.

I believe some folks use Green Dot Moneypak to load into their PayPal accounts. (Never give out your MoneyPak number to pay for a ticket; it's the same as cash. Untraceable, if you get robbed.)

I think he is talking about using his friends credit card on his paypal account. AFAIK, you can't. I tried adding my girlfriend's card to my account so she could buy some books, and paypal wouldn't let me change the last name for the card info.

It would be a regular ticket not will call.
I just went ahead and created an account for my friend on ebay so she could just buy one(when the time is right)for me.
The only thing is now it's a freshy account with no feed back...

P.S.Should I try and get the confirmation #s and email before I have her buy it?

600 a ticket is still not 2x the ticket rate. Scalpers get a lot higher for concert tickets in a shorter period of time. IMO I dont see professional scalpers hitting BM for next year, but who knows.

Agreed. To a professional ticket scoundrel, Burning Man is chump change and takes too long to get the investment back.

And I would add that anyone accomplished at normal scalping would have already noticed that:

* prices are dropping after two weeks of hysteria.
* ours is a community that tends to hedge about price much more than concert ticket buyers will.
* getting out to the event to scalp outside (if you get stuck with unsold tickets) is way too pricey, unless local.

(While a scalper could probably sell tickets if they're not told to move along, they would be unlikely to collect true scalper prices. They might get $100-200 extra--scrounged from other people in the car--at best, on average.)

For these reasons I'm hoping scalping remains small-time opportunism.

Now . . . scams (where there are no tickets at all, or they're promised to multiple buyers, fake-sold, and eventually sold for double their worth to one person) will remain, but scams don't require buying huge blocks of tickets. They can be perpetuated with 1 ticket or no ticket.
