Using the miracle of modern technology, we've crafted a state of the art Magic Button that will help you find the CURRENT and ACTIVE threads offering TICKETS to this year's event. Now you can locate threads with ease, and hopefully connect with the Burning Man tickets you need.

Behold, the Magic Button!

Okay, so it's just a link to an advanced search results. But it feels like magic.

Ticket Sellers

• When creating your threads, please start your subject line with OFFERED: and it will automatically (no, automagically) appear in the results when people use the magic button link.
• When you've sold your tickets, LET US KNOW! Edit your message and change the OFFERED: to **SOLD** and we'll get the thread locked.

Ticket Buyers

• We would really like for you to please stop creating 'need-a-ticket' threads, as they are jamming up the boards. And during this time of year, ticket sellers just aren't seeing and reading them. Your best bet is to PM the seller with your info/details, and then reply in the ticket seller's thread to express your interest (or tell your story). For your own sake, please do not put your email address and phone number in the forum thread in a normal fashion (415-555-1212 or sendmespam@someaddress.com). We get hit pretty regularly by spammers and spambots with lots of cheesy offers, and if they can do that then they can dig through the forums looking for info that gets used to send additional spam or carry out phishing attacks.
• If you're determined to post a 'need-a-ticket' thread anyway, do not use OFFERED: in your subject line. It interferes with the above-mentioned magic, and we'll have to change your subject line. If you're offering a ride or some other enticement to would-be sellers, use 'offering' or 'can offer' in your subject line instead.

Why not have a section for 'wanting a ticket' posts, if they annoy some people so much?

This may be a seller's market more than usual , but I have always found such ads useful.
I suspect many others do too.

Not everyone is in a place with a zillion tickets on CL, so looking for buyers that might be nearby is very useful.
I always respond to people first with phone numbers myself.
Many people have very limited access to the interweb, and they may take a similar approach.

A ticket wanted ad is useful if it has something more than "I want a ticket".
Location is convenient.
Your email should be enabled.
Include obvious information.
Posting a phone number is a personal choice, but those ads are the ones I respond to, including on CL.

You can break up a phone number, as mentioned.
Not a bad idea.


I consider my phone number and primary email to be public information.
My phone number is posted on several places currently on the web, and in the clear.
I still get very few marketing calls.
I have a special email address for some craiglist use.
Training your spam filter is the important thing.
You can't keep an email address secret, only limit the info tied to it.

I have a special technique I use for phone calls I don't want.

Next year, Gyre, the message boards will likely be organized differently. And I don't think it's that they annoy people as much as they make it harder for people to find the threads with tickets in them. Then people end up having pent up frustrations, which (I suspect) leads to heightened levels of irritability and snarkiness. The above-mentioned Magic Button is a workaround to try and help let people find the current active threads with tickets offered without digging through no less than 10 pages of forum posts.

As for the advice regarding posting personal information in a public forum, you are of course welcome to take it under advisement and do whatever you like, there are certainly no rules against posting your own info. We do, however, get messages from people who seem both surprised and shocked when, following their ePlaya posts, they 'seem to have gotten onto some kind of list.' I'd recommend including phone number, email, and location details in any private message you send.

Are any of the complaints coming from people trying to buy or sell tickets?
I'm seeing a lot of complaints from people that make a point of posting that they had the money to buy tickets months ago.

Without interweb, I was very time pressed to find whatever posts quickly, but my complaint was the usual - failure to update posts.

By the next time I got online again, tickets were already bought or sold.
Did have some 'sorry called the guy with the phone number first' emails to write.


Privacy is nice, but far more difficult to maintain than people think.
My new address is totally off the grid ... for now.
Very hard to do.

Many people seem to agonize over people they know having their email and phone number, while every hacker's list on earth had it five minutes after they started them up.

And I did mention a special technique I use for unwanted phone calls.

Yes People need to stop posting ADs about desperately wanting a ticket. So true! I desperately need a ticket but I don't put an ad WANTING a ticket cus it's futile but however people get their tickets is their business. The universe will decide if they go or not.

It's lovely to live in a world with meaning and connection but at some point you reach schitzophrenia. Not a happy place...

So we are a couple looking for the last minute chance to get to the Burn. This will be our 2nd & 3rd times to Black Rock City so a last minute plan and pack mission is no stretch for us.
