A lot of the posts by people who don't have tickets reminds me of addiction behavior when the supply dries up.

Tweekers act just the same.

I hope the "Beekers" can get into a program.

Ah, we must keep a light heart in these things and know the playa provides. We have folks in our own camp needing tickets too... some planned for early entry carrying gear!!!!! Meanwhile why sit and pout, let us spend the waiting days doing what we do best, poking fun at things we can't do anything about!

You know, I've been hearing that sentiment a lot lately.

I hope that Pinchbeck and about 50% of the alterna-new-age-whatever community are wrong as making it to BM 2012 will be super hard.
If Neil deGrasse Tyson pulled me off the street to tell me about astronomy that would be awesome. If I was in Amsterdam when this happened and could convince him to tell me about it at a coffeeshop it would be ideal. Just sayin'.

Saber-

READ the entire thread.

I'll say it again:

READ the ENTIRE thread, beginning to end.

If you had done so, you would not have posted here. You would be searching the forums for a ticket.

I really can't believe people would spend $1000+ for tickets online. For that money, they could fly to Portugal and check out the Boom festival. (My guess is the people spending that much are mostly coming for EDM.) Even the people offering $500 for tickets on CL need to step back and think about what they are really doing.

But what if the good people running shit did something about all this? Not implying that they have to, or even that they should, but, perhaps, thet could. By releasing another tier of say 2000 tickets (only 4% of the total) they demand side of the equation would get satisfied, and the price of the unwanted/un-needed tickets would come back down to face value. Another modest amount of tickets would put the pressure back on the supply side because nobody will want to get stuck with zero. I know this makes way to much sense, and may be so incredibly simple that there must be something wrong this idea...

anyone care to correct me? hugs

Pretty simple why not, any more tickets would violate the BLM population cap as set in the permit.

right. but were all of those tickets released? maybe they can do what our gvernment does. gift all previously ineligible volunteers (even the lamplighter!) a free one, and shift that new "surplus" of tickets back to the ticketless...does anybody really think that there's only gonna be 50k out there...i think the cap is a guidline, and not a hard verfiable number,

Did you read the beginning of the thread?

2) Every Burning Man ticket, whether with a face price or not (i.e. a gift ticket), represents an expense to the event. That is to say, with every ticket they issue, the event incurs a complex set of actual costs. (I don’t know the actual amount, but I’ve heard it’s around $90. This is probably all available online somewhere, if anyone really cared to look -- the point is, tickets costs BMORG money. Real money.) This includes insurance, BLM permitting fees, payments made to local tribes, law enforcement fees (not only is the event required to maintain a certain ratio of LEO's to participants, but they must also pay those LEO's wages) and so forth. These expenses have only increased over the years, and many are not immediately obvious or understandable, especially to those who are not intimately involved in the production of the event. Due to this, the event is extremely careful about distributing free and low-cost tickets. In fact, when viewed in the light of the real expenses that every ticket represents, the abundance of low-cost and gift ticket options the organization offers every year is quite remarkable.

So what does all this mean to you?

Perhaps the most important thing to understand is that, while many people who are deeply involved with Burning Man do receive free or discounted tickets, there is a strongly-held cultural bias against ever expecting those tickets. The reasons behind this are many, but perhaps the most important perception you need to understand is this:

People should contribute to Burning Man because they want to, because it's the right thing to do, because they want to give something back to the community, and NOT because they expect to receive anything in return, least of all a ticket.

Your success in obtaining a ticket to Burning Man 2011 will depend on the extent to which you understand, respect and embody this belief.

keep searching and good luck!

"Crew/Gift" tickets still count. There is no "surplus" to give out. It is a population cap, not a ticket cap. The stop in ticket sales are the means to control the population.

What you think the contract means doesn't matter. Read the damn contract and the 15+ threads that cover that very subject.

Me getting a ticket will rely on someone else embodying that belief, unfortunately. I can only have what they are willing to give/sell.

P.S. It's amazing how far a bit of sarcasm goes on message boards, don't you think?

Tickets are selling for on ebay now $650-$800 when I last checked. Those prices will be a lot lower in the final week as the supply of people willing to pay over face value diminishes and others give up entirely. Add to that the countless cancellations and you will have supply and demand a lot closer to where it usually is, more of a buyer's market.

Wait it out...
