Hello!

I have a friend who is traveling around the world and she'd really like to experience Burning Man. I just discovered that the scholarship offers are closed for the year, and her budget is very small, as is mine at the moment.

I haven't been to the playa in 7 years and she's inspiring me to finally return.

Please let us know if you have 2 extra tickets.

Okay, three things.

1. How much can you afford? Lowest tix I've seen on threads so far is around $250 a ticket. If you're only good for $100 or so, you're not going to get much interest.

2. Eplayans really don't warm to folks who come on here looking for deals. If you go to similar threads written by people like yourself, you'll see the reaction. Just letting you know. And offers for "trade" in the areas you suggest will give them more ammunition for snark.

3. Even if you get your tickets, are you able to afford the cost of the REST of the burn.......food shelter gas etc. Someone like yourself who's been there before would know this. A ticket is just the base of your expenses.

Having said that, good luck and I hope somehow you and your friend make it. Just don't be upset when you don't get the kind of response you were hoping for.

Thank you, Dr. Helix,

Okay, no, I didn't read all the posts on the forum and I feel like a bit of an ass, now. Thank you for taking the time out to respond to my lame-ass post. I completely understand where you and the rest of the (better prepared) burners are coming from. As I've been looking for tickets, I started getting sick to my stomach seeing people offering them up in ebay auctions trying to get as much as they could. Really? Scalping Burning Man tickets? That's where we're at now? What a disgusting disappointment. On the other side, yeah, I can see how it would be annoying to others who have been more mindful, prepared or into it that my request seems like a puerile poke in the dark without a clue.

I know I have ebbed and flowed in my financial security over the years and fortunately, there were times of financial abundance when I was able to sponsor other people to experience the playa for the first time. This time, the tide is out for a while and I'm leaving it to fate to determine whether or not I go this year. I just returned from my first trip to Asia and my friend is traveling around the world trying to experience as much as she can for the next 6 months. A trip to Burning Man will be such a life altering experience for her and I really want to help make that happen.

I'm certainly not asking for anything ridiculous, we were just hoping to find tickets between $250 and $300 if possible. I do know how much money it takes to properly participate, and if I can trim $100 off the entrance fee, then I'll be able to create a better experience all around. I do still have most of the supplies to make a sweet home there and will have a beautiful rite of passage experience awaiting everyone who comes to our camp from Xenira, Goddess of Dreams and Awakening.

No hard feelings if it doesn't happen. If it's meant to, it will.

Well no points for you as you did not whine or express rightous indignation which the eplayans use as a basis towards our goal of awarding the most outrageous begger in 2011. Very thoughful response and so I am hoping you will find a way to make it. Stay on the ticket thread. Saw two tonight for $280 each which falls in your price range. And I believe it will drop further as we get closer and more people will not be able to go. Keep the faith. It will happen. Good luck.

Aw, shucks, Dr. Helix, you're the best.

I am in the midst of an exchange for some $280 tier tickets, so as long as I'm not getting scammed, I'll see you on the playa!

The two ticket holders I was interacting with both dropped the conversation in the midst of verification. These were both people from this forum.

I am still looking for 2 tickets in the $250-$300 range.

Please let me know if you have any available!

Thanks so much!

OKAY, FIRST OF ALL, TAKE A DEEP BREATH. I would call this the usual panic that follows an event selling out. Everyone is angry and the stories can take on the stuff of urban legend. I have heard of the ebay sale. The sellers are driving that I can bet in the hopes of catching some silly fish. See if he collects his 5k and then let's talk. Wait a week and my guess is the hysteria will die down. And lots of folks are going to get a reality check on whether they can really go or not and tickets WILL start to show up. Now it may not be in the price range you had hoped for, but won't be too far off. Hang in there and stay very close to the ticket thread. Something will pop. Good luck and I've got my fingers crossed for oyu.

Some of those crazy prices tix like the $10,099 for 2 are simply morons jacking up i the price with false accounts in protest.
They don't seem to understand that their non-payment will knock them out of the auction and the next real bidder will get them.

Yeah, it looks like a bunch of the bids were nixed, so the seller only got a mere $1700 for the ticket. It'll be interesting to watch this sh!t show unfold. I'll keep my radar tuned in for something more realistic, but at this point, if it doesn't happen, then I'm fine with it.

The last time I was on the playa was 2004 and at a population of ~35,000, it already felt waaaay too crowded and full of lookieloos and their frat-head mentality. It broke my heart to have to pick up the beer bottles and cheap, made in China crap and glowy necklaces that they left in their wake. I hope that was just an anomaly and that the people dropping this serious dough for their tickets will do their part to make it an amazing experience for everyone.

Don't give up hope. Tickets will be out there. Watch that thread like a hawk. You're the kind of person the playa wants to see. I'm keeping my eyes open for you and if I hear of something, I'll send it your way. You just have to promise you'll come to my wedding on the playa on Wednesday.

I'm still watching my ridiculous fb collection of friends for you as well, but so far it's all "need tix" not "have tix".

Oh- I can vouch for xenira. I've only known her in real life for...um.... lets just say we were a lot younger when we met. A lot a lot.

Don't give up! I know I'm not. I've given up on ebay, let the craze die down. I understand how heartbreaking it is to see the prices, stub hub is a little more ridiculous, saw one going for $25K. No joke. I have a thread with the title "Perspective, Hindsight, and the Prevail of Creation", if you're in the area let me know if you are interested. Otherwise, good luck to you and stay positive!!

I'm not giving up, Jell. I won't torture my soul by looking at ebay anymore. I'll just stick to eplaya, CL and my network of friends.

No longer looking for 2 tix, less than $10,000 each...

Postby xenira » Sat Aug 06, 2011 2:01 pm

I have officially given up! I'm disheartened, discouraged and disenchanted. Maybe I'll go next year, but after the nightmare I had the other night, I don't know if I can bear to find out if it was a premonition.

I dreamed that I finally went back to the playa and it was overrun with ultrawealthy, ultraconservative disgustingly self-serving aristocrats who had their servants set up big, elaborate climate controlled compounds in the camping areas, complete with fences, security systems, body guards and guard dogs. The servants would drive them around on ridiculous armored art cars so they could attend various events without having to interact with the peasants.

And what about all the other people who bought the tickets in the six months they were available at "cost" after the tickets went on sale January? Save your money and you can get one for next year.

It seems you may have missed my point. I wasn't complaining that I wasn't able to find a ticket because I decided to try to look late in the game. That's most definitely my problem, I know. AND I highly commend all the super special prepared burners who bought their tickets as usual, which is not such a big deal, really, that's what we do. It's what I have done every year I wanted to go. I just haven't wanted to go for the past 7 years and after a long trip across the world, I thought, "What the heck? Maybe I'll go this year". I was a very active burner for 6 years in a row and had all the gear I'd need to set up a sweet camp, etc. Not unheard of. I've known many, many, many burners who decide to go at the last minute and get a ticket. Big deal.

My post was just to say that I'm giving up this year. I'm over the idea of filtering through all the scams, scalpers and nonsense to squeeze into an overpopulated campsite on the playa this year. After weeks and weeks of attempting to get tickets (even before they had sold out) I had a horrible dream that was so bad, it left such an awful gaping hole in my heart about the event.

I may go back and if I do, I will get my tickets early as I always have. I'm just feeling skeptical about all of it now after seeing what's happening here in Babylon.

Thanks, Gaminwench. Maybe I will come home again someday. I'm just not sure. The way things are shifting it's making me uneasy. Maybe I'm just jaded because I've been away for so long. Maybe I need a fresh dose of playa dust in my face so I can think clearly. :D

That nightmare was truly horrifying. I literally woke up covered in sweat with my heart pounding. I took one look around, saw what it had become and screamed "What the FUCK??!?!" and woke up.
