I have a friend who is traveling around the world and she'd really like to experience Burning Man. I just discovered that the scholarship offers are closed for the year, and her budget is very small, as is mine at the moment.
I haven't been to the playa in 7 years and she's inspiring me to finally return.
Please let us know if you have 2 extra tickets. I can also do trade...web design, hair styling, jewelry making, etc.

Okay, no, I didn't read all the posts on the forum and I feel like a bit of an ass, now. Thank you for taking the time out to respond to my lame-ass post. I completely understand where you and the rest of the (better prepared) burners are coming from. As I've been looking for tickets, I started getting sick to my stomach seeing people offering them up in ebay auctions trying to get as much as they could. Really? Scalping Burning Man tickets? That's where we're at now? What a disgusting disappointment. On the other side, yeah, I can see how it would be annoying to others who have been more mindful, prepared or into it that my request seems like a puerile poke in the dark without a clue.
I know I have ebbed and flowed in my financial security over the years and fortunately, there were times of financial abundance when I was able to sponsor other people to experience the playa for the first time. This time, the tide is out for a while and I'm leaving it to fate to determine whether or not I go this year. I just returned from my first trip to Asia and my friend is traveling around the world trying to experience as much as she can for the next 6 months. A trip to Burning Man will be such a life altering experience for her and I really want to help make that happen.
I'm certainly not asking for anything ridiculous, we were just hoping to find tickets between $250 and $300 if possible. I do know how much money it takes to properly participate, and if I can trim $100 off the entrance fee, then I'll be able to create a better experience all around. I do still have most of the supplies to make a sweet home there and will have a beautiful rite of passage experience awaiting everyone who comes to our camp from Xenira, Goddess of Dreams and Awakening.
No hard feelings if it doesn't happen. If it's meant to, it will.
xenira wrote:Aw, shucks, Dr. Helix, you're the best.
I am in the midst of an exchange for some $280 tier tickets, so as long as I'm not getting scammed, I'll see you on the playa!

xenira wrote:WOW!!! WTF????? Tickets now on ebay are selling for $5,000 and up!! I saw a set on ebay for $10,000!

I feel sick to my stomach. I don't even think I can consider going at this point.
xenira wrote:Yeah, it looks like a bunch of the bids were nixed, so the seller only got a mere $1700 for the ticket. It'll be interesting to watch this sh!t show unfold. I'll keep my radar tuned in for something more realistic, but at this point, if it doesn't happen, then I'm fine with it.
The last time I was on the playa was 2004 and at a population of ~35,000, it already felt waaaay too crowded and full of lookieloos and their frat-head mentality. It broke my heart to have to pick up the beer bottles and cheap, made in China crap and glowy necklaces that they left in their wake. I hope that was just an anomaly and that the people dropping this serious dough for their tickets will do their part to make it an amazing experience for everyone.
xenira wrote:Awesome, Good Doctor! Not only will I come to your Wednesday wedding, but I will personally kiss your playfied toes if I can manage to wrangle 2 tickets and make it to the playa this year. Let the universe do its magic! I will keep my eyes open here on the forum.

I'm still watching my ridiculous fb collection of friends for you as well, but so far it's all "need tix" not "have tix".
Oh- I can vouch for xenira. I've only known her in real life for...um.... lets just say we were a lot younger when we met. A lot a lot.
xenira wrote:I was just directed to the Facebook event: Rites of Passage BM2011 - Ticket Exchange. Hoping that tickets will be matched up with those who want them. If you're looking, go and check it out. Keep yer fingers crossed for us seekers!

Seems like another good way to look for tix. Good luck!!!!!
PS - Do you know why your topic thread title changed from $250-$300 to $10,000? Weird.

And to wish you luck on your ticket hunt.

I understand how heartbreaking it is to see the prices, stub hub is a little more ridiculous, saw one going for $25K. No joke. I have a thread with the title "Perspective, Hindsight, and the Prevail of Creation", if you're in the area let me know if you are interested. Otherwise, good luck to you and stay positive!!

I dreamed that I finally went back to the playa and it was overrun with ultrawealthy, ultraconservative disgustingly self-serving aristocrats who had their servants set up big, elaborate climate controlled compounds in the camping areas, complete with fences, security systems, body guards and guard dogs. The servants would drive them around on ridiculous armored art cars so they could attend various events without having to interact with the peasants.

And what about all the other people who bought the tickets in the six months they were available at "cost" after the tickets went on sale January? Save your money and you can get one for next year.
