Cyclist in need of Low Income Ticket/Offering

Postby tiredofit » Tue May 17, 2011 3:50 pm

Hello all! My name is Dave, never thought that I'd be looking for a low income ticket at this stage in my life, but here I am. I stepped back from life after getting far too stressed out and bought a bicycle to try to ride around the world, to see peoples smiles as opposed to emoticons. I travel as far as I can go in a day and live in a tent at night while trying to maintain a logbook of the project at http://www.tiredofit.ca - Anyways, I've been trying to figure out what my route is going to be for the next 5 months as I have to head to the westcoast, and have been deferring looking for a cheaper ticket until I had the chance to sit down and plan loosely where I could be. It wasn't until today that I arrived in Philadelphia, sat down and noticed that low income tickets are long gone now. My friend is tying the knot and has asked that I be there as the 'best man' and I don't think I've got the funds in me to support one of the higher priced tickets at this time. I also think its fitting that I'm going through major changes in my world testing the boundaries of what is fearful and uncomfortable in my world to find a proper series of balance in my life.

I last burned in 2005, started in 2001 and was involved providing support, building a community and bringing people together in the Canadian prairies up until 2007, before I moved back to Vancouver, where I am originally from. Since then I made contributions to the community with a rather large sound system installation for events, fundraisers, and general gatherings. I didn't think I'd be going back to the Playa but think that it seems to be a part of my journey this year and I might see the experience in different eyes since I've been living in such a different way for the past few.

I'm certainly low income (I have no job!, no home, 'cept for 6 bags!), would love to be able to experience 2011 and embrace the warmth of the community, and wonder if anyone is out there who has a lower cost ticket to allow me to attend this year? I'm also looking for opportunities to volunteer with people, whether it be a theme camp, large scale art installation, or WHY - Would prefer to stay off the Esplanade however.

Regards, and crossing my fingers the universe is smiling in my direction, Dave

Maybe you should have planned better than to have placed your ticket priority as an after thought at the end of your global bike jam.

So presumptuous.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realised that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me.

Not letting that response sway me from coming back to the Playa - doesn't sound entirely friendly and the way that most burners have been during my encounters with them over the past 10 years. Bad days I suppose happen to all.

Never confuse The Playa, with ePlaya.

Most of us only bite if you ask nicely on The Playa.

Here you are just bacon.

Keep your chin up, Dave. ePlaya is not THE Playa, as you know doubt know, even not having burned in a while. We may all be interested in the Burn, but it is still just . . . a message board, with an average amount of carnage, & skepticism of strangers. Gift tickets tend to go from friend to friend or at least acquaintance to acquaintance.

I hope you're able to take advantage of the $240 ticket someone offered you on your website on 5/18. That's about the cheapest you're going to get. Info on buying from 3rd parties:

http://tickets2.burningman.com/faq.php

Excerpt: WARNING about buying tickets from a third party: Be very careful when buying tickets from someone you do not know or who will not willingly give you their full name, email address used to purchase the tickets and ticket number. It is best to buy third party tickets in person. We strongly discourage buying third party tickets through the mail. Before purchasing, find out the full name the ticket was purchased under, get both the 8 digit and separate 5 digit number/letter combo from the back of the ticket. Contact partiserv(at)burningman(dot)com with that information and we can let you know to the best of our knowledge if the ticket has been reported stolen or part of a scam. It is reasonable to pay for the face value of a ticket plus fees so calculate this before agreeing to a price. Burning Man cannot be responsible for third party ticket sales so be careful when purchasing. If you feel that you have been scammed by someone, contact your local police and report the person.

You might also be able to pick up a cheap ticket closer to the event, when people really want to unload them or be left with worthless paper.

Consider also asking the person who wants you to be Best Man to buy you a ticket to be left at Will Call (for which you must have an ID AND confirmation number), and tote in your water and food. In my experience, anyone who wanted me to stand up for them in a wedding was an old friend, who would--at minimum--trust me to pay them back once I had a job. (I was gifted a bridesmaid dress twice.)

Good luck . . .
