Just got word that I was awarded a Scholarship ticket. Soooo very very happy! Thank you Frog or whoever else read my application and chose to awarded me this ticket! I am so very grateful.

Anyone have any experience picking up one of these tickets? Looks like I pay for it at the Will Call gate...

congratulations! I'm waiting to see if I qualify for the low income ticket. I wonder how long it takes to find out if you've been given the blessing of the ticket?
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

I wonder why you have to pick it up at Will Call? All other "types" of tix are able to be paid for and mailed... =/

That would bug me. A lot. For every year I've gone, a part of the joy and joyness of the whole experience was fondling my ticket months before the event took place. :D

Ticket rubbing is heavily frowned upon.

Hey, whatever gets you off...

Still doesn't give me much insight into the whole "will call" gate process... Has anyone EVER done this for their ticket?

Purely speculation here, but perhaps the reason they have you pick up scholarship tix at Will Call is to avoid them being re-sold for profit? Or maybe even so they aren't resold to folks who don't qualify for a scholarship ticket?

If you can't make it, let them know when you find out.

They willl transfer the ticket to someone else, if possible.
Just bring your paperwork with you.

That's pretty much the reason, same with the performer tickets. Although nothing stops you from reselling right at the gate or turning around and reselling in Gerlach. Because it is a hard ticket once you've gone through WillCall.

Last year we had performer tickets at will call, but I didn't need mine. I could have paid for it and left it as a miracle ticket, but we aren't always that flush that we can do that. So it went unused.

Will call is easy... we do it most years. There will be a turn-out to the right when you arrive for the will call booth. you stop there, get in line and pay. Bring your ID and a printout of the email showing you received the scholarship.

Your confirmation email told you what you need to have, when you pick it up.

Here is my advice:

Make sure the people you are traveling with know you have to wait at WC, and either plan to have them wait in the vehicle waiting area or to drop you off and you find your own way in.

Treat it like you would any playa trip, with water, sunscreen, booze, etc. on you. There is no telling how long you'll be in line.

didn't Frog email the secret handshake instructions to you? You gotta know the handshake at will call or they won't believe you are you.

I was awarded one as well, and did have a question-

I will be moving *right* before (well technically during, but I'll be packing my apartment prior to leaving and my roommates will be taking my boxes with them to our new place) I leave for the burn, and the email mentioned that I will need to have my ID with current address on it... will it present a problem if that address doesn't match the address I will be coming back to? Its not a far move, only a couple miles away from where I currently live and still in the same city.

You do need to verify this, but I am certain that what matters is a current photo ID.
The name must match the ticket records.
I think a passport is adequate too.
It has to be a photo ID.

I had this issue when I got a scholarship ticket.
I used my ticket order paperwork to confirm my identity to the dmv, to get my license re-issued, so I could pick up my ticket.

As long as the name on the valid I.D. you bring matches the name on the printed confirmation email you'll bring with you, you should have no problems getting your scholarship ticket from Will-Call.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll look into getting new ID issued with that address just in case (though I'll only be living at the new address for about a year until I move to Pittsburgh for grad school) I just don't want to have any difficulties getting into my first burn :)
