What place in line did you get?

Postby Cheyenne » Wed Jan 19, 2011 3:19 pm

This ticketing system is the biggest bag of shite I have EVER experienced. I went on the site the MINUTE the purchase button went online and I was #17 in the Queue.

It then reset itself and I was 11,708

then it reset itself and I was 26,800

what the fuck are the techs playing at?????

I have been online here for 4 hours and I am fucking annoyed.

The only option to go to the history records the last known place on the browser... so it takes me back to the fucking 26k place...

I've been saving for months for this wanky heath robinson pile of rubbish to waste a whole evening when I could have been working on customer orders...

And no, don't tell me this is all part of the 'experience' ... they have obviously had enough time to be able to forsee such nonsense!

If anyone can give me any tips about how to get my place back, that would be mostly appreciated... I don't usually post agression, but this is a joke!!

"@burningman Burning Man Folks, there are NOT actually 20,000 people in front of you. Those numbers are artificially inflated. Hang tight."

Update: 2:54pm PACIFIC TIME:
First tier tickets ($210) are almost sold out. $240 tickets are still available. Please buy the highest priced ticket you can afford!

The red message went from $210 still available to $210 almost sold out
$240 still available, hmmm...so many have given up in anger and disappointment, they have college classes, work schedules that do not allow computer baby sitting. I am getting emails from camp threads expressing the disappointment, highly unusual.

Yes, some of the numbers in line are false but how many I wonder?

Seems the age old practice of using "a child in a kiddie pool",
the "human touch" is a fairer method of selling lower priced tickets to those who can use the help, not whoever is savy enough to press refresh and or take screen shots and has better computer connections.

Gahhh...such a bummer. I've spent my whole day at work watching this thing like a hawk. If it isn't to my number by the time I get off work, I'm sort of screwed. It's just a huge let down that I was on time, ready at 10:00, and should have gotten a first tier ticket, and now I will probably be stuck with a third tier one, which I don't think I'll even buy. I know I could get a cheaper ticket online from craigslist or eplaya or something.

So disappointing. You'd think that the fact that they have had this same problem in the past would ensure that they took proper precautions to make sure it didn't happen again. I LOVE Burning Man and I'm going no matter what, but this definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Yup, maybe a computerized lottery would be a better method

or the child in a kiddie pool, it does work for a similar event with limited numbers available

I've heard too many horror stories of people being ripped off through craigslist; the horror stories often get posted on eplaya, sad stories.

seems tech savy wins, on time means nadda, hmmm see above^^^^ child in a kiddie pool/human touch method or a lottery...could be some sort of a solution

I don't want to be really harsh, I know Burning Man doesn't owe us anything and that it's a huge privilege to be able to attend an event like this one. I am very grateful for everything the Burning Man staff does to make this all happen.

I think my frustration comes from the fact that I had expectations of clicking the "buy tickets" button, getting my ticket at the 1st tier price, and going on with my day. I have never purchased BM tickets from the site before and didn't realize that problems like this were common with so many people trying to go on at the same time.

This is major "first world problems" material in this thread. I will be happy no matter what I pay for my ticket and will have an awesome time.

I was stuck in a "frozen" queue, and got bumped back to #14k or so. I had to leave work, 'cause I broke my ribs on monday and I'm not feeling so hot. When I left I was at 4232. So what I did was leave my laptop open, take it home in my car. It took 40 minutes to get home. As soon as I was home, I got on my home network, hit refresh, and I was #112. The next 60 second countdown, it was my turn to purchase. But it was a tense and troublesome afternoon.
I ended up with $240 tickets.
I'd rather hit the books.
