Pre-Sale Ticket Scam - Did you get yours in time for XMAS?

Postby Kimo » Mon Dec 27, 2010 5:12 pm

I bought 2 tickets @ $280.00 each via the BM website on 11/20 with the expectation that they would arrive before XMAS as advertised. When they hadn't arrived by 11/23 I became concerned and sent an inquiry off via the inquiry link on the website. Later that day I receive the following email:

Your order has been sent for:
(1) $280.00 - Burning Man 2011 - Burning Man 2011
(1) $280.00 - Burning Man 2011 - Burning Man 2011

Your tracking number is XXXXXXXX
To track your shipment, click here:
http://usps.com/shipping/trackandconfirm.htm
Please allow 48 hours for your tracking to be available online.

Your package will arrive via USPS Insured Priority Mail and will require a signature upon delivery.
Your shipment should arrive within 5 business days. If your package is not received within 10 business days, please contact your local post office at http://usps.com.

What a crock. :? I talk to a "Marylin" in ticket sales and she says there's nothing they can do about it and won't make any concession for them not shipping these in time for delivery by XMAS. She said that they were processed in the order they were received and they had to print these and then hangs up on me when I ask her to escalate this. What Bullshit! I'm extremely disappointed and I was wondering if anyone placed their pre XMAS order after 11/20 and if you received your tix before XMAS?

According to the BM website:

Burning Man Ticket Pre-Sales
We're offering up 1,000 tickets for sale (at $280, our third tier price) Wednesday 11/17 at 10am PST, in time for holiday gift-giving. Details and ordering information can be found on our tickets page.
Pre-sale Tickets are available until December 30, 2010, OR we run out.

Our ticket Pre-sale is NOT a part of our regular ticket launch on January 19, 2011. Don't worry, it does not affect our ticket allotments or preclude you from trying for lower priced tickets when tickets go on sale on January 19, 2011.

Tickets available during the Pre-sale are $280 each, before applicable shipping & handling charges. $280 will be the third price level in the regular launch in January.

Buying Pre-sale tickets will disqualify you from applying for either the Low Income or Scholarship ticket programs.

PRE-SALE SHIPPING:
Tickets will ship to US and Canadian addresses only. All other international orders will be Will Call only. Tickets will ship only to the buyer, not to any third parties, and will include a receipt. Pre-sale tickets bought by December 19 will ship by December 19th. Opting for Express delivery will increase the likelihood of receiving your tickets before the holidays. Tickets not shipped by December 19th will not ship until after the new year, the week of January 3rd.

Burning Man uses an outside company, InTicket, for their ticket sales. I have had an unfortunate experiance with them in the past, and they are a bit difficult to deal with.
I had to threaten to stop payment on my credit card to get them to actually to their job.
You may want to contact BMorg and let them know your problem. I know this is a major task for BM to handle in house, but I think they at least expect that the job is going to be done correctly without arrogant people giving the BM clients a hard time.

Thank you Shambala. I will attempt to escalate this to the BMorg person that you reference. Do you have any more information on BMorg, first name or job title?
Again, thank you for your advice.

I ordered on 11/26, and saw the charge on my credit card 11/27. I was hoping to get it by the Solstice, but, I got a lunar eclipse instead. 8)

They sent me notice of shipment on 12/22, post office tracking got it 12/23, and it was delivered to my home today.

:D :D :D

I am now a very happy "transitional being." Trying to be the person I wish to become, I am not going to rat them out to Amex about the delay between charging and shipping. It's a beautiful object, this ticket; it really shines.

8)

Happy to see that you got yours, Kimo!
