Who did/does the "Need a Penny, Take a Penny" thing?

Are you doing it this year? I have a virgin who thunk up the idea herself but we don't want to step on any toes.
It seemed like an easy/fun project and I'm sure there are 40,000+ people who *haven't* seen it on the Playa.

It's simple, really. Ygmir (or whoever it was) duplicated the "Have a penny, leave a penny. Need a penny, take a penny" tray found in most convenience stores.
-Something for passers by to wonder about (and maybe interact with)

We were thinking about a 4x4 post with signage and a vessel (tin can, seashell, busket) attached to the front.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't see how having 2 or 20 or 200 or 2000 of these would really detract from the 1st.

Yes, he does. But it's more than pennies. I think he puts in something like $50 or $100. He then counts the money at the end of the festival to see if he's under or over. I've never personally seen it, but he's explained it--I think maybe here somewhere. I'll try and search here; if I find it, I'll edit the post.

Gift rack. I used to do one of these, which was what gave me the idea for the Home for Wayward Art. You have to take it in/close it up right before Burn Night, or it just becomes a trash receptacle.

I put 100 bucks worth of change in a milk bucket, suspended in a tripod, with the sign hanging.
And, then, see what's there after.


really fun, to watch, It turns into a bank, ATM. change machine, gift, Ice or coffee money, gas money, and, people leave stuff, too!!
