You'll be much better off going straight to Placement. Rangers don't deal with placement issues. (Though, Rangers will call placement for you...)

We were not placed and I'm pretty pissed about it - Farmopolis was an excellent interactive camp last year and this group of burners has had a placed camp every year except 2009 (when a lot of people got hosed). Maybe we asked for too much - placement on A with an art tunnel to Esplanade to support a large art project. Really really really pissed off right now...

I noticed that thread too. I think it was because that person wasn't a theme camp that they got noise about it. Haven't they heard the saying, "great fences make great neighbors"?

How big was your camp?

I'm not exactly sure yet, our village contact hasn't given me all the details other than "no placement". We applied for a village of 100 people, I applied for Farmopolis camp within the village. Our village provides the Cornhole Bar (which was very popular last year), Manchanical bull (best ride on the playa), the Clothesline and two large art projects (one of which was last minute and wasn't included in placement app). Our main art project is Chroma - a cast aluminum bust of a woman, about 14 feet tall with arc lights shining onto the playa - an amazing piece of art by an amazing artist. We wanted Chroma to be on Esplanade but we weren't asking for an Esplanade camp (although this group has been on Esplanade before - The Belfry in 2007). I'm guessing our request for A was too much. We don't have DJs or large sound because we are an art and interactive camp, not a sound camp. Maybe A placement was pushing it. I don't know, but this blows.

Sorry to disagree, but... Rangers are your best bet when dealing with civillians camping in reserved space, as placers are dealing with placement issues, not with wayward and/or arrogant non-theme-camp participants.

That's, um, why they're there. To mitigate on playa confrontational issues. Plus, they can escalate to a power with more ahh-thor-ah-tah if needed. If the interlopers need to be relocated to a place outside the BLM closure (eg given the dusty boot) it escalates to an LE issue, where you best have rangers involved as well.

Placers deal with YOUR placement issues. Rangers deal with participant issues.
