So the big centerpiece this year is a laser clock. Then is TIME the essential nature of Rites of Passage?

Is there a Rite of Passage that does not involve time? Changes over time that delineate and end of one period and the beginning of a new period?

Is the sunset an illusion? Our perception this as a temporal event is due to our limited faculties. In truth, it's a geographic and celestial phenomenon. A line on a sphere between light and dark... and little else of significance.

Is the establishment of an anthill a rite of passage? The star explodes, vaporizing the planet and the anthill. Shall this as well be marked as a Rite of Passage?

What Rite of Passage do I create for millions of microbes every day, by breathing, walking, rolling over in bed?

Actually, um, since your body contains 10 times as many bacterial cells as human ones, and most of these are in your lower gut :shock: the key Rite of Passage for the biggest group on the playa takes place in the JOTS. And I think EspressoDude plays the All-Powerful God on that one.
