Miniatures of YOUR THEME CAMP/ART Needed!

C.R.T.T. needs your help!

Every year we have an interactive 24/7 art project. We cover a geodesic dome in white fabric, hang neon markers from it, black-light it, and invite passer-by to write/draw something on it pertaining to the year's theme. Inside the dome is usually a chill space decked out in theme related decor.

This year, although the outside of METROdome will be much the same as previous years (draw a building/part of a skyline or city scene), this year I want to take the art inside too. The floor of the dome will have a scale map of BRC drawn out. This is where I need your help!

I would like to have miniature representations of your theme camp (registered or unregistered, placed or not placed, whatev...), art installation, regular camp, organization, etc., to be suspended from the ceiling of the dome over your approximate location on the BRC map, thus creating a miniature floating Black Rock City... Have I lost you yet?

Here are the specs:
**Create a lightweight, possibly black light reactive, miniature model or other representation of your camp/art, preferably 3-dimensional (meaning it can look like your actual camp OR just be a clever representation. Example: Porn & Eggs camp = an egg with a smutty picture glued to it. You get the idea...)
**Put some sort of suspension point at the top of the miniature since these will be hung with monofilament line from the top of the dome.
**Put your camp name and address somewhere on the model. The bottom is probably best since the model will also be viewed from below.
**Scale is approximately 1/190, or 50'=1". I KNOW MY MATH IS SHODDY. Hush up you engineers and rocket scientists. Since that is pretty damn small we are going to cheat everything up a little. Here's the translation for the rest of you... try to keep the size between a matchbox and an egg. Large camps or villages (half/full block+ size) can go a little bigger (cigarette pack sizeish). Art installs can also go a little larger for detail (also cigarette pack).

We arrive Thursday, 8/27. I am hoping to have the dome up on Saturday, 8/28. You can drop off your model, early or during the event, with Gidget, Miss Pussypants, or Sweetpea (aka Emily, Heather or Mark) or any other capable member of our camp who will give it to one of us. I'm trying to avoid having models mailed to me to take out there, but if that is your only option in order to participate please let me know and I will give you a pre-playa mailing address.

I really hope you would all like to participate in this project! It will take the community to be successful. Please spread the word to others who may not frequent eplaya as much. We will bring some raw materials for models to be created on site, but I worry about the potential moop factor of toothpicks... I will post example pictures of our model once it is complete.

Does anyone know anyone from the man and temple crews this year? I would LOVE it if they would contribute models! They would kick sooo much more ass than anything we would make on site...

I like the idea but the scale is just too tiny to be interesting. Trying to carve out or build up something the size of a postage stamp sounds like frustration to me.

Maybe younger folks with good vision and steady hands won't be discouraged.

I actually do miniatures and the scale is smaller than I want to tackle.

But it will be very cool.

If we keep it exactly to scale it would be postage stamp size, but that's why I am fine with going a little bigger. We will hang the models at varying lengths if it starts to get too crowded. I just wanted to give the really technical people a figure to start with. Really I will accept whatever people bring me... it's just a small dome, hence the scale specs.

I hope it will look cool and people will enjoy it!

Megatropolis and Minitropolis will be there in miniature.

We've already made several scale models and burnt them. What's another one!

I look forward to seeing your camp in miniature including a tiny METROdome with a tiny scale model of BRC within it. It's microscope time!

LOL on me making more miniatures: I'm already doing a model for a camp as a gift/loaner display), I have several small pieces which may end up in Sacred Spaces, and my one inch scale Happy Hippie bus is rather on hold and I haven't begin the trailer (one in ch scale). Can I fit in a Home for Wayward Art too? I don't know.....

And I have to get my regular doll house redone, and I need to make a cover for my half-inch scale Fantasy B&B, and and and .....

I love miniatures and models.

AntiM, it wouldn't be complete without the Home for Wayward Art... I hope you have time (though I understand if you don't).

Speaking of which.... We are also in need of representations of Center Camp, Playa Info, DPW, Artica(s), Recycle Camp, Medical.... in addition to the Man and Temple and theme camps and art.... any takers out there??
