Contraption Builder Seeking Contraption

Hey there fellers,

I am finally about to make my long overdue pilgrimage to Burning Man this year. I understand that I must experience Burning Man before I attempt to address it with an art project or installation. However, I feel it would be an injustice to both my contraption-building-nature and this wonderfully creative community to show up having contributed nothing. So like many newcomers out there, I am hoping to offer all that I can towards an existing project.

Assuming I graduate in the spring, preparation for Burning Man 2010 will become the dominant force in my life. My home is in Chicago, however I may stay in Upstate New York. I might even travel out to the Southwest in mid June. If someone is building something ridiculous in Arkansas I might just end up there.

So I'm looking for leads - people or groups building crazy whimsical contraptions. Anyone have any ideas?

You should come by The Contraption thread and say hi! It's a thread about, at its root, a particular project that is its namesake, but it swings wide and loose to catch other projects and general maker/gearhead/Agripunk/Steampunk/Punkpunk talk. There are lot of tinkers and builder on the forum so be sure to hang around and get to know the place. You'll feel right at home.

I like your work and I like the idea of "Dragon Day". Very cool.
