I think it's "no marabou" (as in feathered boa) on playa; AFAIK, regular feathers are OK.

if it's certified organic, free range recycled metal, then yes.

but seriously, the DPW spends countless hours picking up feathers, sequins and even minute glitter (known as "playa scabies") so if your doing the drag queen thing, or an ABBA re-enactment, or even sequin dresses, try to make sure everything is secure as possible because somebody WILL have to pick it up.....i see beads alot too.

marabou in particular tends to shed, and boas in general, unless they're synthetic are a no-no....

quilled feathers such as in Nat. Amer. headress MIGHT be OK, i'm not sure how they view that, but if it's something nice like that, i wouldn't bring it out there unless you want it permanently dusty anyway.

LEAVE NO TRACE....think about that in everything you do, whether it is garbage, to misc. moop, or accessories and clothing. The Playa will thank you in many many ways.

Ourania, since this is your first year, you have yet to know the profound love that most people develop for the Black Rock High Desert and Surroundings. I get really really pissed when i see people mis-treating her.

Absotively. I second that. I actually had no intention of bringing anything feathered to the playa and I really am working on a headdress made of metal. The whole feather thing stemmed from your previous post about Native American dancing and Root Society annexing the Indian Matchmaking camp next door.

Actually, I'll get a trial run at it at the regional burn here near Toronto coming up in early August. There's a possibility it may be on my families land so I'll be able to go and get a taste before I'm actually on the playa. Does anyone from New York ever come up for regional Burns?

possibly, we are only 3 hours away, but i have yet to get the proper bagging and tagging to make through customs...as you may know, new regs. at all crossings.

i suppose i should, but the whole rfid chip perm attached to my hip via my wallet sorta bothers me....alot.

Chances are in August i will completely manic and working 24 / 7 anyway, so probably not...There is quite a sizable outpost here in the ROC and i know a few consider toronto a second home anyway, because as much as we hate to admit it, it's just so much BETTER than here......

now i need a genesee cream ale to cheer me up.

I tell you what Simon, I'll bring you some Canadian suds on the playa. 'Cause I hate to say it but, they're better. What's with the chip thing though? I've heard that the crazy Big Brother biometric chip thing was an option but surely it's not mandatory. I'm going down with just my passport. I assumed it was the same coming up from the States.

Do you notice how long it's taken anyone to post on this thread? I mean really, what do you say to that? I mean on the one hand, it seems like it should be kinda sexy but on the other hand, it's just way too clinical. Kinda like the gynecologist's office.
