I chose who I chose because I was getting discouraged about all the anti-American rhetoric, the bashing of this year's theme, and a generally negative reception about the whole idea.
They are each known for being critical of the American way of life. Yet, in being critical, had also managed to be that much more uniquely American. Independent minded, free-thinking, boundary testing, out-spoken. Yah, my kind of America!

Why Henry Ford???
The automobile probably did more to bring America into modern times than anything, and he did WAY more than anyone else to make them plentiful and affordable.
He was also probably the first large-scale equal-opportunity employer, hiring anyone qualified to do the job regardless of color or nationality, and paid them a better than average wage for the time.

While he didn't invent mass production, he certainly used it.
And I agree with his philosophy of building for durability.
But is it really true about his hiring policies?
Considering his history with unions and the american bund, I would find him hard to use as an american example even though he did achieve many impressive things.
It seems like kind of a wash overall.
Still, better than bush.
