It was hot. Waves of heat rose from the earth, sweat burned my eyes as I crawled toward the city on the Playa. Almost there, almost free of the scorpions and snakes, those buzzards circling in the sky. I'm saved! I'm saved! Just before reaching my destination I come upon a scene of doom and desolation. Kiwis, unaccutomed to the harsh conditions of the Nevada desert, had dried up and died within sight of their goal. Poor bastards - never even made it to the battlefield. I had to keep moving, I was nearly out of water. All I could do was snap this photo with my phone - perhaps it will comfort their families back home to know of their brave but hopless struggle.
