Where does one get charred wood?

Does anybody have any suggestions on where one can obtain ~200lbs of charred wood on very short notice in Boston area?

The kind you use for BBQing or just lumber that's cosmetically charred? Or something else?

Actually, since you bring it up, does anybody know how to quickly cosmetically char some pieces of lumber?

Oxyacetylene torch with a big flame (like a rosebud) flashed over the face of your wood works wonders.

Ya can use a gasoline blowtorch as well. But the nozzle's gotta be big - the broader the flame the better the result.

My brother makes furniture similar to that. After charring with a torch, he uses a wire brush to break off loose pieces, then covers with a dark stain. It looks really good. Similar to something you'd expect to find on an old ship. I'm not sure if that's the look you're looking for, but I thought I'd mention it in case it gave you any ideas.

Thanks Mike. I'm actually going to cover it with a clear coat and then paint it over with fluorescent green

Fire is best used for charring. I did see ONE example of art made to look like it was charred but made by carving and coloring. Sounded like a much harder way to go about the look.

1)Light that shit on fire
2)Watch it char
3)put it out

Unfortunately, local regulations prevent me from having an open fire anywhere around here. It would also take a rather long time to burn all of this stuff and I have to have this thing finished, disassembled and on a container to BRC by next Sunday. Still have no idea where I'll find the time to finish it, but it will get done... somehow.
