Wondering how many paiutes actually make it out to the playa and if they have any focused art or themes. I have looked but have not found any.

I definitely would like to connect with some of the true local natives and of course any other natives on the playa.

I am wabanaki, coming out from the dawnland and will be out their for ritual and medicine and art of course and i would like to pay my respect to any paiutes while there. i will be bringing gifts and offerings for them. if i can't find any on the playa- i do know where to find them on the rez and other places.

Arrr, there be many Paiutes on the Playa, Matey...

(Sorry - bad taste, I know...)

From what I hear, they get semicomp tix from the llc if they want to go. Not a bad deal. 'Bout time someone treated them decent... I remember when Nixon was a buncha rusty quansets and pure poverty... Now they have new homes there... and have you seen the Roundhouse? Wow!!!

If for no other reason the bit of prosperity that brc brings to Nixon is well worth it, IMO. They deserve it... Seriously.

And not wanting to sound patronizing, but should you stop in Nixon (or the surrounding environs) try the Indian Tacos. They are great! Exceeded my expectations at every level. And passing a few dollars their way never hurt either.

Damnitall, this is the year I do it. I'm a big ol' frybread junkie (my brother and I are 1/8 Cherokee on our father's side; we did a lot of pow-wows when we were younger), and I've been wanting to as long as I've been coming to the event...but the only time I was flying solo before this I didn't have any cash coming up. :-P

Uh-oh, better stop now, before I use the words "plan" and "Burning Man" in the same sentence.... ;-)

Jeeze Louise Fishy, we've known each other for years and you never offered to buy ME an Indian Taco. I guess you know who your friends are when delicious, yummy, grease-dripping all around your beer scrumptous ITs are part of the equation. Boy, and I thought we were friends. Now, we can make it all better if you were to bring two, no, make that seven, Indian Tacos by Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro around, oh, say 6:30 Monday or Tuesday or any other day of the week that ends with "day" and damn it, don't go cheap on the hot sauce either. And beer, I'll need several of those. And if you happen to have a nice Silver Oak 2001 Cabernet that would also be appreciated.

For an exceptionally ghetto substitute, Jack in the Box french toast sticks will do in a pinch - they're a little crunchier on the outside, but the interior texture and overall flavor are close enough.

Just found packaged frybread.
Made by Bimbo as a Bimbunuelos in a wheel.
Not as good as fresh, but it's frybread for sure.

Ahhhhhhhhhh.
Now I just need the next Choctaw event around here.

So i guess that is a no on the paiutes and a yes if i bring lots of fry bread i might find the rest of the natives.

Maybe sprouted spelt fry bread in high safflower oil or something.

Any other natives - tribe affiliations and such.
I am abenaki and Mik maq.

I will be having morning sunrise service the day before and after the eclipse and would love to get as many others as possible.

er, one of my ancestors left his wife and kids (who I am descended from) and went off to live with his girlfriend who was a member of one of the tribes. I don't know which one, though. That's about as close as I come. :oops:

(Pretty much all Western Europe genetically here, maybe a bit of Eastern. I can't really narrow it down much more than that, since my ancestors had the habit of invading one another more or less constantly over the centuries. :roll:

I have an ancestor who was Cherokee.
Funny thing is, she horrified most of the family not by being Cherokee,
but because she smoked a pipe.

The thing I like about frybread (apart from tastiness, of course) is the whole meaning it has to me about survival and continued cultural evolution. After the US govment took away the land, it basically became responcible for the feeding of the indians. They shipped them flour, as if breadmaking were completely obvious. (Talk about cultural blinders!) Frybread is what the indians invented to do with it.

I just love that story.

My sister told it better.
